Club Events

Wanderers Lawn Bowling Club offers many different opportunities to bowl and have fun.  From social bowling (Jitneys) to competitive bowling competitions - there is something for everyone.

Before playing in a game, new members must either have participated in an "Open House" or attended “Learn to Bowl” sessions.  Depending on prior skill levels you may attend from one to four sessions before participating in an event.

Jitneys
A jitney is a pickup game for bowlers at all skill levels.
You don’t have to belong to a team, and you’ll play with different people every time in games of pairs, triples or fours.
These games are non-competitive and players on the teams are picked randomly, providing an excellent way to get to know and socialize with fellow members, enjoy the game and improve your skills. It is an ideal event for beginners to improve the skills they have learned after attending “Learn to Bowl” sessions

You do not have to sign up before playing in a jitney.  Just arrive 15 minutes before a game, put your name tag into the draw so you can be assigned to a team, collect your bowls from the shed and do your stretching routine.
Jitneys are held Monday to Friday starting at 10:00am (arrive by 9:45am) and Sunday at 11:00am (arrive by 10:45am). Evening Jitneys are held on various evenings (check the club calendar for when these would be available) starting at 6:30pm (arrive by 6:15pm). When the bell is rung – the games begin.

Check the calendar for availability and any changes to the schedule

Any new member who has NOT YET participated in an "Open House" or completed “Learn to Bowl”  or any non-member interested in watching a game or visiting the club can come at these times.

Social Jitney – Occasional Friday evenings involve not only jitney bowling but also great food offerings as well ($$).  These events are very well attended and require a sign-up to help the caterers. Check the calendar so you don’t miss an event.
When there is a Social Event sign up via email [email protected] or by scanning the QR code on the Match bulletin board inside the Clubhouse.

Leagues
Leagues are organized events for skilled players who enjoy competition. Teams are made up in advance by the Match Committee so players must sign up beforehand.
Leagues include:
  • Prep. League – for bowlers who want to improve their skills in preparation to represent our Club in local, national and international events.
  • Aussie Pairs – A competitive game that is also fun. Teams are made up by the Match Committee Chair. Games are 14 ends played in the Aussie Pairs (2-4-2) format which gives players an opportunity to be both a lead and a skip.
  • Metro League - Pairs
Sign up via the email [email protected] or by scanning the QR code on the Match bulletin board inside the Clubhouse.

To prepare for league play members are encouraged to sign up for a "Train to Play" or "Learn to Compete" skills clinic.
